Pai used to be the place for all the bohemian travellers to go to. 20-30 years ago this was a undiscovered place for the tourist and it was know as the chilled out hippie town. It is quite funny to see that some people ended up staying here. There are many older westerners who have settled down here with their Thai wives or husbands and still have the bohemian lifestyle. Now Pai still has this reputation, but with the help of the lonely planet and other guidebooks it is packed with backpackers. However i still have never seen so many people with dreadlocks collected in one place!
As I have mentioned before, many people end up staying far longer then expected and I understand why. This place is to laid back, the people friendly and the nature is amazing. There are hot springs, waterfalls beautiful rolling hills and lots of jungles.
